Founded in 1762 by Jonathan Hager, Hagerstown has evolved into a thriving community of Washington County. Hagerstown has much to offers its residents. One of Hagerstown's better knows parks is the 50-acre City Park features lakes complete with ducks, swans and geese and other wildlife. The park also features fitness trails and is home to the Mansion House Art Center, Jonathon Hager House, and the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts. The Hager House was built in 1739 by city founder Jonathon Hager. The house is styled in the German tradition and is outfitted with authentic furnishings from that time period. The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts is certainly one of the town's gems. The museum features a collection of American paintings and European, Oriental and African art. Also on exhibit are drawings, prints and sculpture from the eighteenth century to the present.

The annual Western Maryland Blues Fest is a summer highlight for Hagerstown residents and blues loving visitors. Held for three days in June, it is a festive stage for nationally recognized as well as new and local blues musicians. For children the festival also hosts extensive children's events and all enjoy the festival's delectable feasting.
